Developmental Edits

Before you consider tackling your dangling participles, split infinitives, and cramming more impact into your sentences, you first have to consider the core story.

More than just the plot, the story also deals with the themes, messages, and pacing. Most importantly, it also makes sure what you intend to get across is what's reflected in the manuscript.

What to Expect

Developmental (or substantive) edits call for rewrites—there's no point in fixing specific sentence structures if they're cut completely! This is the stage where you kill your darlings; you'll throw out whole scenes, plot lines, and characters, and identify where you need to rebuild. (With my help!) I do not use AI to assist in my editing and I never will.

Turnaround

Typically, you should expect a completed editing letter detailing my thoughts and a copy of your draft with in-text comments in 4 to 6 weeks. (Please note, the turnaround time will depend on the length of your manuscript, how intensive the edits required, and if you have a specific focus in mind.)

Pricing & Deposits

LIGHT edits: $0.01 / word

MEDIUM edits: $0.015 / word

HEAVY edits: $0.02 / word

At the time of booking, I will send a PayPal invoice with 15% due up front. The rest of the balance should be paid at the time of the edit's completion, to be paid before the editing letter is sent. Payment plans are available, but only if agreed upon before the invoice is sent.
