What is light/medium/heavy editing?

This is how I judge how much work is needed for your manuscript, rather than doing a one-size-fits-all rate. If you're not sure which fits your manuscript, I'm happy to review a sample to give you the most accurate quote.

Can I expedite your services?

Sure! But I do charge a rush fee of 30% on top of the base quote. If the turnaround is particularly quick, to be determined at my discretion, I may raise the rush fee to reflect the added work.

What are your turnaround times based on?

Experience! The times given for each package are based on what it's taken me in the past, even accounting for my day job taking up time in my schedule. If there's ever a time I think I'll be late on a turnaround because of scheduling conflicts, I pride myself on my open communication and transparency.

Are there any topics you won't read?

I'm not really interested in narratives that use abuse or sexual assault as a phoenix moment for the protag to overcome. They're important stories to tell, but I'm not really the one for them. And large age gaps aren't my cuppa, either. (The exception is fantasy series with immortals and mortals, etc.) If you're not sure your manuscript falls under these topics, feel free to email me and we can discuss!

What if I don't like your suggestions for my draft?

You don't have to go with anything that I suggest. They're just suggestions :) However, I explain the reasoning for each suggestion and how it will (imo) improve the story. I am also open to working out some alternative takes collaboratively! (Within reason, of course.)

If I don't like the suggestions, do I have to pay?

You sure do! But if you really don't like any of the suggestions I made, we can work together collaboratively to see if we can come up with something that you like better. Remember, you hired an editor for a reason!

How will you send your suggestions?

I use Track Changes in Word/Pages to mark up a copy of the draft as I read; if you've gotten a developmental editing package, I'll also write up an editing letter with a more detailed analysis of the story. I'll send both through email after I have received the final payment, except in the case of payment plans. See PAYMENTS tab for more detail.

Do you just use AI to edit?

No! I read through your text on the first pass completely without help; on a second round, I utilize spelling or grammar checks to help catch anything I missed in my first read, but always manually review every suggestion. I do not and will never use generative AI to create copy, images, or designs or to suggest changes to your manuscript.

How does the process for getting a website built look like?

This will be mostly done over email! I'll send a Word document for you to fill out asking for the basics of your brand (colors, fonts, Vibe, etc.) to guide the design and the copy if applicable. I'll also have you send any assets you want used on the site. Once I have a draft built, I'll send screenshots for an initial sign off; if there are no revisions to be made, I'll send a link to a preview of the live site; if THAT is good, I'll transfer the website to you after final payment (except if there's a payment plan; see PAYMENTS tab for more detail).

Can I keep you on retainer to maintain my website?

I have been on retainer for clients, but I don't currently offer it here. I will offer one-off updates if they're needed! The pricing will be decided based on the scope of the updates before the booking is finalized.

How many revisions are included in the package?

For design, included is one (1) major tweak and two (2) minor. Major would include something like completely redoing pages; minor would include something like color swaps, layout tweaks, and asset swaps. For web copy, included is one (1) major rewrite and one (1) tweak. A major rewrite would be completely rewriting pages; minor would be something like rewriting a few lines here and there.

How do you collect payments?

I send a PayPal invoice detailing the package, rate, estimated turnaround time, and any other details that we've agreed on beforehand.

What if I need a payment plan?

I offer payment plans, but only if they're agreed upon BEFORE the invoice is sent. We can work out the amounts, time frame, and due dates to be included on the invoice before it's sent. Asking for a payment plan after the invoice is sent or not paying the remainder of the balance will be grounds to refuse service now and in the future.

Is there a deposit due?

Yes. 15% of the full balance will be due once you receive the invoice. I will not start work until the deposit is paid, and if the deposit isn't paid in a timely manner (determined at my discretion), I will cancel the contract. The 15% is PART OF, not in addition to, the final balance, and is non-refundable.
